After a decade in London and Copenhagen, I've recently come back to Sydney.
I started out building breadth through R&D at Canon's lab, then years across consultancies working on UX and strategy for clients in finance, energy, travel, and consumer goods. The longer chapter was at Pleo, where I joined as the third designer and stayed five years. The company scaled from 40 to 900+ people; I scaled with it, eventually leading a team of 40+ while staying close to the work, reviewing, sketching, and shipping alongside them rather than just setting direction. That contributed to 39% customer growth and 50%+ revenue growth in FY23.
After that I made a deliberate move back to the craft. Reshape Biotech as the first full-time design hire, building the function from scratch. Then TheyDo as Staff Product Designer, working on complex data problems for large organisations. AI's been part of the process throughout, for pressure-testing research and for prototyping and building the work itself.
I think in systems. I care about how teams do good work. But I do my best work with my hands still on the tools, not just directing from above.
