After a decade in London and Copenhagen, I've recently come back to Sydney.
I started out building breadth through R&D at Canon's lab, then years across consultancies working on UX and strategy for clients in finance, energy, travel, and consumer goods. The longer chapter was at Pleo, where I joined as the third designer and stayed five years. The company scaled from 40 to 900+ people; I scaled with it, eventually leading a team of 40+ while staying close to the product. The work contributed to 39% customer growth and 50%+ revenue growth in FY23.
After that I made a deliberate move back to the craft. Reshape Biotech as founding design hire, building the function from scratch. Then TheyDo as Staff Product Designer, working on complex data problems for large organisations.
I think in systems. I care about how teams do good work. But I'm most useful when I'm close enough to the problem to actually feel it.
